In the IPL 2024 Auction held in Dubai, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bolstered their pace attack by acquiring four pacers. Among them are West Indian speedster Alzarri Joseph, New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson, pace-allrounder Tom Curran, and Yash Dayal. RCB invested Rs 11.5 crore on Joseph, Rs 5 crore on Dayal, and Rs 2 crore and Rs 1.5 crore respectively on Ferguson and Curran.
History
In September 2007, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled plans for the Indian Premier League (IPL), a revolutionary Twenty20 tournament set to debut in 2008. At the auction held in Mumbai on 20 February 2008, the franchises representing eight diverse Indian cities, including Bengaluru, were up for grabs. Vijay Mallya emerged as the winning bidder for the Bengaluru franchise, shelling out a remarkable US$111.6 million, the second-highest bid in the auction, just behind Reliance Industries’ bid of US$111.9 million for the Mumbai Indians.
According to a survey conducted by Duff & Phelps in 2019, the brand value of Royal Challengers Bengaluru was estimated to be ₹595 crore (US$75 million).
